Meet the Member: Erica Butler, MAI

Where do you live and who do you work for?
I live in the Charlotte MSA I’m the Executive Vice President for Partner Valuation Advisors

How long have you been appraising?
I started appraising in December 2012

Who was your supervisor as a Trainee and how did you meet them?
My supervisor was the illustrious Vanessa Hall, MAI who served as President in 2021. I met Vanessa through our shared love of dance as she attended and worked at my dance company. I hired Vanessa to teach dance
and Vanessa hired me as a Trainee. 

What is the most unique property you’ve appraised?
I didn’t mean to specialize in racing and drinking but I’ve appraised Richard Petty’s penthouse overlooking the track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Rockingham Speedway, and basically every brewery in Charlotte.

What is a fact about you, outside of work-life, that people would be surprised to know?
I have a degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in Performance Studies where I studied all aspects of performing arts production including adapting, writing, producing, directing, and performing.

What is the biggest benefit you’ve seen from your involvement in the NCAI?
The biggest benefit I’ve seen from my involvement in the NCAI is the career networking opportunities. I’ve met bosses and colleagues at meetings. The connections you make through the institute are vital to career longevity.
